9 oz 12 oz or 20 oz tank for paintball gun?

which tank should i get? i don’t wanna b the guy in the back just laying out cover fire or the guy in the front moving up i kinda wanna do both. also how many paintballs will those (all 3 seperatly) shoot? and about how much will it cost to fill it up each time?

Compressed air is really the way to go, eventually, but for CO2…it depends on the convenience factor, usually.

I don’t own 9 oz as I can go through them very easily. I have 2 20 oz CO2 tanks as backups, and to give you a rough idea…I usually can fire about 800-1000 rounds with one tank. The only problem is, the 20oz tank is pretty large and very heavy. If you are screwing the tank directly to your marker, I wouldn’t suggest anything but a 9 or 12, as your arms will start to feel the weight very quickly. If you are going to use 20’s….I would suggest an early investment in a remote, which is like a coiled hose assembly that will let you wear your tank on a belt or pod harness. It also keeps the tank’s weight near your center of gravity so you can move easily and rapidly without throwing your balance off.

To give you a rough idea then…a 9 oz can fire maybe 400 rounds, a 12 oz usually about 500 or 600, and a 20oz about 800-1000. It depends on your marker and whatnot. I’m using an A-5 currently.

As to the pricing, you can get a fill on a 20 oz tank at any major sporting goods store, like Dick’s, Gander Mountain, etc. Usually the prices run about 4-6 bucks….with Gander Mountain charging 4 in my area, to Dick’s charging 5 or 6…I can’t remember. There is a pricier option, but more of a convenience, I suppose. My local Wal-mart will let you turn in your old 20 oz tank for a full tank…..like turning in an old propane tank for a new one. It’s quick, you walk in, exchange tanks and walk out…but the price is usually about 8 bucks.

If you eventually move up to a compressed air tank…with fiber wrapped tanks, the weight drops dramatically, you will have less corrosion, etc as compared to CO2, and a decent sized tank can burn through 1500-3000 rounds of paint before filling up. So, in the long run, price wise, the compressed air tank will pay for itself as the fill prices are pretty comparable to CO2. The only problem being not all places will do a fill for compressed air or nitrogen…..
