I have a stryker STR-1 paintball gun and want to get a longer barrel for better accuracy.?
What barrel and Where can I get one that is at least 17 in long that will fit my gun?
I believe the Stryker takes Spyder threaded barrels, but I’m not 100% sure on that. However, I will inform you that a 17″+ barrel is no more accurate than a 12″ or even a 10″ barrel if they are all the same make and model. It’s quite possibly true that even a 24″(I can’t believe they make them this long) will be much more accurate than your current barrel, but that’s only because the barrel that comes stock is of very poor quality. The best size is around 14″ for the best efficiency, but for accuracy the length has very little to do with it. You’ll need a quality made barrel that has a consistent bore that is good and smooth (no pits or burrs), then you’ll need paint that fits the bore of the barrel. The paint need to be of good quality as well, no dimples or bulges. Lastly, you’ll need a consistent air source such as HPA, regulated CO2, or a liquid CO2 setup. The last one wouldn’t work for your marker as it’s just not built for it. A well regulated CO2 setup is just as consistent as an HPA setup, but in the end is no cheaper and can in fact cost more to do. When you get the marker to shoot the paint at a consistent velocity and the paint is good quality, most of your shots will hit in the same general spot and thus allow for accuracy with enough practice.
All a longer barrel does is it makes your marker more of a gas hog, decreases your maneuverability, allows for slightly easier aiming when sighting down the barrel, allows you to use thick brush for cover in woodsball (as you can push the barrel though the brush and shoot), and give you a certain look that you may be after. Honestly, unless you prefer the way the marker looks with an overly long barrel, there is really no real benefit, as most players grow accustom to how their marker shoots and can shoot from the hip with a fair amount of ease. Also if you are playing by the true rules of paintball, then if that barrel gets hit when shooting behind brush then you’re out, so it doesn’t give much of an advantage as aiming becomes much more difficult.
