Would it be better to upgrade my tippman 98 or buy a new gun?
I like the Ariakon SIM-4 elite and the BT-4 Assault marker, but I’m not sure what to do. I play mostly in the woods.
I guess it depends on what you like the most. If it were me and I played woods ball only… I would keep the tippmann 98 or if buying a new marker get another tippmann or an autococker. The reason for this would be I worked for 3 years on a local paintball field that was placed in a eucalyptus grove and I know the benefit of the Flat Line barrel. Flat Line barrels are no longer excluse to tippmann guns and they now make them for the Autocockers. They look a lil funny on an autococker but still serve the same purpose.
Flat line barrels have a light S shape designed into the barrel which puts backspin on the paintball. Do so will allow you to shoot a lil further but more importantly in a wooded area where you have a canopy it allows you to shoot in a rather flat line hence the name. Standard barrels will require you to shoot in an upward arc to get that extra distance but that is impossible when you have tree branches 10 feet over your head.
Though the MIL SIM markers look cool you will be loosing a tactical advantage if you purchase one. My personal preference would be to get an Autococker perhaps even the VF-Tactical which sort of looks militaristical. I’ve never been the biggest fan of tippmann markers. Though a WGP autococker would still have the ability to be upgradable like tippmann. They’re higher class markers and I’ve noticed that when tuned right they’re the quietest mechanical markers out there.
One caution though with a flat line barrel. With the backspin on the ball there is an increased risk of bounces at longer distances. So make sure that the ball broke if you’re shooting someone 115 ft away don’t just take them for an eliminated player. Also watch your speed a friend with a 98 and flatline can only go 225 fps b4 he chops balls with his 98.
Hope this helps.
Paintball guns paintball guns are vaguely similar to a small pocket pistols. They are the pump action or semi-automatic firing. They gauge often and powered by 68 gram CO2 to leave 12 or the cartridge. They are most successfully used as a weapon or back-up to complement a main weapon of choice. There are pros and cons of carrying paintball guns compared with standard paintball guns.
PROS
Paintball guns is extremely lightweight and portable. They are very useful in woodsball because they are compact and can be kept in a pocket, harness or holster.
They are highly manoeuvrable which can not move around corner and around the area more easily. They are useful for tight spots in the field that require quick response and the ability to shoot fast and hard stroke.
Pistol Markers are ideal for fuel attacks and quick hit and run or intimidation tactics. They make the ideal weapon in a situation of last resort.
Most paintball guns are quick and easy to reload; Some take literally seconds to remove and re – loading a new magazine. This makes the action much more quickly in the field. They are very scalable and easy to disassemble and clean.
CONS
Because of its short barrels, paintball guns lack the precision of a good rifle. Most of the guns play best within a range of 25-50 meters. If you need to shoot farther, a long-barreled gun is a better option. Shorter barrels less time to paintballs to stabilize before leaving the weapon, resulting in less accuracy at a greater distance.
Guns have a reduced ability of standard paintball ammo firearms. This leaves the player at a serious disadvantage against an opponent.
Paintball guns have a lower air capacity and not as powerful as markers of more than two guns. They are usually powered by 12 gram CO2 cartridges. Depending on weather conditions and how chrono'd the gun, you can only expect about 30 shots a round. Once again, puts at a disadvantage against a player with a more powerful weapon.
Paintball guns have their place in the game. They carry lightweight, easy to manage, highly maneuverable and fast. They are particularly useful in the ball scene or woodsball as an effective weapon. You should, however, be aware of their limitations and not expect the same performance from them as if it were a standard paintball marker.
