When I try to download any games or anything the page closes why?
I’ve tried to play games on pogo, ion thunder games and even check to make sure I have sun java downloaded and it closes also. Help?
There are a lot of reasons why you are having problem at pogo, but all of the information won’t fit in this answer section so i will give you what i can along with pogo’s phone numbers so you can contact them with your problem, good luck with it.
Pogo does not officially support connections through firewalls, routers, or proxy servers. Also, please note that wireless Internet always has wireless routing, which can potentially block Pogo.
There are some things you can do to improve your ability to connect to Pogo if you do have a router or firewall. There is a fairly simple solution which most firewall packages support. If you allow access via our class C licenses, you will then be able to access the games and everything should work fine. Your firewall will probably require some IP addresses for this, and here are the IP addresses you need:
159.153.235.1
159.153.235.2
If you need help setting up your firewall as outlined above, please consult your system administrator or the documentation on your firewall software. We’re not firewall experts, so your firewall documentation or system admin are your best bets for getting help on setting this up.
We constantly change which ports we use, so we don’t offer port numbers as a solution for firewall and proxy access problems. We know that some people are used to using to punch holes in their firewalls, but the above solution is more secure and is supported by most firewalls on the market. Please note that we are unable to provide Port information to you.
Service Pack 2 (SP2) has a lot of new security features added, including an integrated pop-up blocker in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x and a firewall. So far we have not encountered any major problems with it while playing our games, but if you already have any Internet security software that functions as either a pop-up blocker or firewall (i.e., Norton, McAfee, Zone Alarm, AVG, etc.), you may want to consider the following:
If you have any other potential SP2-related issues that are not covered below, please let us know.
— Pop-up Blocker —
A pop-up blocker is added to Internet Explorer and is automatically turned on. It will let you know when certain windows are blocked and then allow you to view them. But in order to keep you from having to allow a lot of different entries, you can do the following to allow all Pogo.com game site entries:
In Internet Explorer, click Tools on the navigation toolbar menu.
Select Internet Options.
Click the Privacy tab.
In the Pop-Up Blocker section, make sure the check box next to ‘Block pop-ups’ is checked.
Click the Settings button.
In the field where it says “Address of website to allow”, type “pogo.com” (without the quotation marks). It will add a entry that looks like this “*pogo.com”. That will allow all of the various areas of our site to appear on your screen, including Tables, Profiles, Chat Help, and so on.
— A Game is (or Games are) Cut Off at Bottom of Screen —
If you are running Pogo games at resolution of 800×600 or lower, there’s a chance that the Status Bar at the bottom of the browser window may cut off the very bottom edge of the game screen. Our development team is investigating this issue at this time and we are trying to devise a work-around in the meantime.
— Firewall —
If you already have any Internet security software that functions as either a pop-up blocker or firewall (i.e., Norton, McAfee, Zone Alarm, AVG, etc.), installing SP2 will add a secondary layer of protection. While this may sound like a good idea, we have seen instances where there are conflicts that arise as a result of this “double layer”. You may proceed with using SP2. However, you will need to decide which one you want to be active. In other words, if you have third-party firewall software installed and you install SP2, one of them will need to be disabled.
If you continue to have problems with playing our games after trying these steps, please let us know
When playing Pogo games on Microsoft Windows Vista, you may encounter one of the issues listed below:
‘Cannot load games
error in some games
Perfect Pair Solitaire locks up (chat may or may not work fully)
Each of those issues can be fixed by using MS Java instead of Sun Java.
How do I upgrade or re-install the Microsoft Java VM?
To download the Microsoft Java VM, try downloading and installing it from one of the links provided below
http://main.zylom.com/msjavx86.exe.
http://www.abxair.com/software/msjavx86.exe
http://www.hi-teach.com/infohub/help.htm
http://www.coker.edu/info.tech/pub/software/
http://java-virtual-machine.net/download.html
http://www.itnet.org/ms/msjavx86.exe
Note: MS Java will only work with a Microsoft Internet Explorer browser that is Version 5 or later.
Once you’ve downloaded the program and scanned it for any malware, follow these steps:
Click Save when prompted.
At the top of the next window, there will be an area that says “Save in:”. Immediately to the right, there is a drop-down box where you can select where you want to save the file. Make sure this is set to Desktop (It is the upper most list option)
Click Save. (The file will take anywhere from 1-40 minutes to download, depending on how fast your connection is.)
Once the file is downloaded, find the file named msjavx86_3805.exe. It will be located on your Desktop background.
Double-click the file to start the installation.
When asked “Would you like to install the Microsoft VM?”, click Yes.
When installation is complete, you may need to restart your computer.
Next, uninstall the Sun Java Plug-in:
Click the Start button on the Windows Taskbar.
Select Control Panel (this may be under ‘Settings’ on the Start Menu).
Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
Click Java 2 Runtime environment, SE v1.4.2_01. (Note that the version number may also be SEv1.5 or higher.)
Click Remove.
Follow the prompts to uninstall it.
Also, be sure to remove any “J2SE Runtime Environment…” items as well.
Now completely close all browser windows and try playing again. You’re now using the Microsoft Java VM. If you still have problems after doing this, please submit a question by contacting Pogo
And here is also a text from the pogo site called MSJava.txt
To download the Microsoft VM, please enter the following web address into your browser.
http://www.wildtangent.com/install/jvm/msjavx86_3805.exe
If the download does not start it is most likely due to a popup blocker installed on your system.
When you’re asked whether to ‘Open’ or ‘Save’ the file, click ‘Save’
Save the file in your ‘Desktop’ folder. This will make the file easy to find once you’ve downloaded it.
The file is 5.2 Megabytes, and will take about 40 minutes to download on a 56K modem. (Make sure you get the whole 5.2 MB of the file)
Once the file download is complete, search your ‘desktop’ icons for the file you just downloaded.
Find the ‘msjavx86_3805.exe’ file and double-click on it to start the installation
When asked ‘Would you like to install the Microsoft VM?’, click ‘yes’.
Read and the liscense agreement and click ‘yes’.
When installation is complete, you may need to restart your computer.
If you have problems downloading the file or installing it (i.e. – ‘Not a valid Win32 application’ errors, etc.) then you probably didn’t get the entire 5.2 megabytes of the file. You’ll need to re-download the file again, and make sure you get the entire 5.2 megabytes.
